David Sokol began pursuing his love of photography when he attended White Pines College in Chester, NH. where he graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Photography. Shortly after graduating college he started his photojournalism career freelancing for local newspapers north of Boston. In 2004 David accepted a full-time photojournalist position with Community Newspaper Company, now Gatehouse Media and is the sole photographer in the Danvers office of GateHouse Media. David is responsible for managing the daily schedule as well as hiring freelance photographers for 20 newspapers and their websites.
David is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and over the years has won numerous awards. These range from internal nation-wide company contests to the National Press Photographers Assoc. monthly clip contests and the yearly New England Press Association contest. David has won the coveted NENPA Photographer of the Year Award for the past two years. He continues to capture unique and interesting heart felt moments and searches for new exciting ideas and techniques to improve his photojournalism career.
David is an avid hiker and photographer of the natural beauty of New England. During his off times in the spring and fall he can be found in the White Mountains of New Hampshire or up at Acadia National Park in Maine finding great compositions of these extraordinary places.
David’s love for the outdoors has led him on many photographic adventures throughout New England and we are blessed to have him as one of our tour leaders.
